Today’s Action: Fight back against Trump’s attack on Muslims and refugees

Tomorrow marks the one-year anniversary of Trump’s promised Muslim Ban. Although we managed to hold it off for 11 months, the Travel Ban is now in full effect against six Muslim-majority countries – and will remain so, unless Congress or one of several lawsuits making its way to the Supreme Court overturns it.

The ban signaled a dangerous turn toward authoritarian bigotry in the first days of the Trump regime — and Trump didn’t stop there. In 2017, he also lowered the US refugee acceptance “ceiling” from 110,000 to 45,000…and then only let in 15,000.

Trump’s racist policies have been sold to his base as making America safer, though no credible evidence supports this. In fact, his racist agenda has caused more violence. From the good folks of WeAreAllUSA.org:

“Asylum seekers, including children, are being detained in government and for-profit detention centers. These actions, coupled with anti-immigrant/refugee and Islamophobic nationalistic rhetoric, has had real consequences, leading to increased hate crimes and local and state policies targeting these communities.”

The United States is the most powerful and wealthiest country in the world, with the ability to welcome those in need. With just a little human compassion, the American Dream can still be a real possibility here – so let’s make it one.
