Today’s Action: Overturn the Muslim Ban through new legislation
Democrats in Congress are taking on Trump from every angle, including his original, first-week-in-office move: the Muslim Ban.
135 million people from the Muslim-majority countries of Lybia, Iran, Somalia, Syria, and Yemen are blocked from all travel to the United States, due to Trump’s Muslim Ban 3.0 which went into effect in June 2018. The ban has been compared by many to the Japanese internment camps of World War II, a decisively and unequivocally shameful chapter in our nation’s history.
But now, Democrats in both the House and the Senate have introduced fresh legislation to overturn Trump’s bigoted ban. The bills would dismantle Trump’s Islamophobic campaign-promise by cutting off the funds to implement it.
Email or call (202.224.3121) your Members of Congress and ask them to end Trump’s Muslim Ban by cosponsoring and pushing forward (House) H.R.810 and (Senate) S.246. And if they have already cosponsored (House/Senate), be sure to thank them for their efforts.
Millions of Americans indefinitely blocked from seeing their loved ones. Countless international students unable, deterred, or too frightened to return to school. And 5.5 million refugees denied the possibility of safety and protection. (Bear in mind that 14 million Yemenis are facing literal genocide thanks to U.S. military support…and Trump’s ban has cut off their refugee access to our country.)
Along with his stupid border wall, the Muslim Ban was Trump’s original campaign promise, a vow to his rabid supporters that he’d keep out an entire religion of 1.8 billion adherents (approximately one-fourth of the global population).
This legislation is one of our best chances to not only fight Trump, but fight another dark chapter in American history. Let’s make it a short one.
Call or email your Members of Congress and urge them to cosponsor (House) H.R.810 and (Senate) S.246 and overturn Trump’s Muslim Ban. And if they’ve cosponsored the bill (House/Senate) already, thank them for fighting Islamophobia!
