Today’s Action: Write a letter to the editor about Trump’s cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security

When Trump was campaigning for president, he vowed he would not cut entitlements. Did we believe him? Of course not – but his voters did.

Just announced, Trump’s proposed 2021 budget includes nearly $1.8 trillion in cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. These cuts, if passed, would affect every corner of America. And although it won’t pass as-is with Democrats in power in the House, Trump’s intention is clear: win re-election, win back the House…and push through this bloodbath.

Literally hours before announcing the cuts, Trump (predictably) tweeted that he would not make any cuts. The Misinformation Train has left the station and it’s up to us to catch it and correct the course.

Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper, expressing how Trump’s proposed cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, and/or Social Security would affect your family or community. Try to reach Trump supporters by connecting in the ways we truly do share commonalities.

His budget doesn’t get better. Cuts also include 8% of the entire Education budget, over 25% of the Environmental Protection Agency, 9% of Health and Human Services…all while boosting Homeland Security (more on this tomorrow, btw) and giving his wall another $2 billion.

Republican voters are fighting through outright lies straight from the source. And as we’re all quite entrenched in the news sources we depend on, personal letters to the editor of local newspapers is one of the best ways to still reach voters across the aisle…and entitlements are some of the most universally shared topics to connect on.

Plus, it’s not only more pleasant than fighting with your uncle on Facebook, you’re also not dealing with nasty algorithms specifically designed to keep political commentary inside its own bubble. Get outside the bubble to really make an impact.

Send a letter to your local newspaper, explaining how your family or community will be affected if Trump’s proposed cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, or Social Security were to go through.
