Demand McConnell recuse himself from the Senate impeachment trial after he admitted coordinating with Trump!
As the House moved to impeach President Trump’s for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, attention quickly turned to the Senate, where Republican Leader Mitch McConnell will oversee historic proceedings on Trump’s potential removal from office. The charges put forward are serious, the facts largely uncontested.
The flailing narratives put forth by Republicans, however, reek of desperation and obfuscation. Attempts to ignore, deflect, and defend Trump’s systemic abuse of power by the GOP thus far have been galling by any measure, but Sen. McConnell has indicated things are about to get much worse.
In a jaw-dropping interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News, McConnell baldly admitted that the President stood “zero chance” of being removed from office and that Senate Republicans would work in “total coordination” with the White House on the trial’s proceedings – a stunning admission of impropriety, even by the GOP’s abominable standards.
True, impeachment requires the judgement of political figures, but the seriousness of a formal trial before the full Senate demands a sober, somber examination of the facts, not a predetermined acquittal by political cronies serving an audience of one. If an ordinary citizen were called for jury duty and notified the judge – in advance – that she would work in total coordination with the defense before hearing any evidence, she would be rightly ridiculed and dismissed. McConnell should be held to the same standard.
Demand that Mitch McConnell recuse himself from the impeachment trial of President Trump for undermining due process and his craven promise of partiality. History is watching, and democracy is at stake.

Today’s Action: Remove Trump from office
Congratulations to progressive activists everywhere, including here in our own OD Action community.
Donald Trump has been impeached for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.
This historic moment only captures a fraction of the cumulative abuse and obstruction he has committed during his three years in office, but it is a monumental occasion nonetheless. We are so proud of the work Democrats have put in to hold Trump accountable.
Now – there’s no time to rest, not yet. Because next up is a trial in the Senate. Mitch McConnell has already admitted that his GOP Senatorial cronie-crew will run as swift and dishonest a trial as they can manage. But that doesn’t mean we can’t influence some of the more moderate Republican Senators to treat Trump’s deed as the crimes they are. And we do that by getting in touch with the voters those Senators listen to.
Full transparency: it’s an uphill battle to achieve removal from office. But, it is possible. And, even a close vote that doesn’t ultimately go in our favor would still be a massive political blow to Trump in his upcoming re-election campaign. Every single Republican vote turned counts both now and later.
And know that the other side is making their phone calls as well. As rabidly as Trump’s supporters love him, they’re calling their Members of Congress to keep him in place, regardless of his crimes. We must not sit back idly and let the people who elected Trump in the first place be the only influence in the ears of the Senate.
The best impact you can have right now is to inspire and motivate the constituents of those 13 Republican Senators who have shown flickers of independent, rational thought, and who may demand they keep the rest of their party honest.

Today’s Action: IMPEACHMENT DAY
Last night, we turned out as a nation for impeachment rallies in every single state. And today, we watch with anticipation as the House votes to impeach Trump for just two of his many impeachable offenses.
This is the moment we’ve been waiting for. Three years of witnessing Trump’s flagrant abuse of office and violation of the law as president. And finally – finally – our lawmakers are holding him accountable for using the powers of the office for personal gain.
But some Democrats from moderate districts are wavering, and we need to be sure Rep feels the pressure to do the right thing.
Your Members of Congress need to hear from you today, a final push of courage and encouragement to do the right thing: impeachment and a fair trial.
- Call (202.224.3121) or email your Representative and urge them to vote in favor of both articles of impeachment. Remind them what we’ve said from the beginning: nobody is above the law, including Trump.
- Call (202.224.3121) or email your Senators and ask them if they will support a fair and open trial in the Senate, to hold Trump accountable for his actions. It’s not too soon to start the fire under the next steps.
Trump is a criminal. Period. We have known it for years, and now, we have the chance to do something about it. Make your calls.

Tell Republicans to stop defending Trump by repeating Putin’s dangerous propaganda!

Tell Republicans to stop defending Trump by repeating Putin’s dangerous propaganda!
We’ve come to expect hyperbolic falsehoods and moral turpitude from President Trump when it comes to his, uh, let’s call it governing style, so it’s no surprise how he’s handling his Ukraine bribery scandal now engulfing him.
The president has clearly adopted a zero-sum endgame approach, scorching any semblance of decorum with baseless, broadside character attacks, baseless conspiratorial musings, and general obfuscation of established facts. What’s truly shocking and potentially more damaging to the republic is the weak-kneed fealty of the GOP establishment in this dangerous, destabilizing game.
True, there are outliers in the Republican midst like Sen. Mitt Romney who aren’t willing to feebly fall in line, but the overwhelming majority of elected GOP officials are incredulously toeing the poorly drawn Trump line on Ukraine, repeating and retweeting widely discredited talking points and conspiracy theories so outlandish that Vladimir Putin expressed thanks to Republicans for spreading his propaganda.
The US intelligence community confirms that the absurd argument that Ukraine is to blame for 2016 election meddling originated in Russia. And yet, the GOP persists, harming American interests and emboldening the very adversary that attacked our democracy in 2016 and plans to do the same in 2020.
The ongoing impeachment inquiry, which has been handled with sterling precision and focus thus far, is the constitutionally mandated safeguard for just such a moment. We must insist that our elected officials stop playing politics with a very real constitutional crisis. We have a rogue presidency hopelessly careening off the rails; now is the time for Congress to rise to the occasion.
Demand Republicans Members of Congress stop harming U.S. interests and repeating dangerous Putin propaganda for short-term political gain.

Today’s Action: Congressional spending bill – no more detention beds!
A recently uncovered video shows that a 16-year-old Guatemalan boy named Carlos Gregorio Hernandez Vasquez lost his life due to missteps and utter neglect by Border Patrol agents while he was in their custody. Despite serious signs of ill health, Vasquez was jailed and ignored instead of being sent to a hospital. He died in a pool of his own blood.
This tragic and unnecessary loss is a shocking reminder of the severe brutality of Trump’s border policies.
Congress has until December 20 to create a spending bill that Trump signs off on – otherwise, the prospects grow continuously more bleak for a yearlong spending bill, which would include much needed budget increases to various domestic programs.
But at the same time, some of the ‘compromises’ to close the deal are absolutely unacceptable. Trump wants more money for detention beds to ramp up his horror at the border, more wall spending, and the (continued) ability to reallocate funds around as he pleases.
Call or email your Members of Congress and tell them:
- not one dollar toward Trump’s unnecessary, hateful border wall or additional detention beds in the upcoming spending bill
- eliminate Trump’s ability to steal funds from other budgets to fund his xenophobic border policy
- cut funding to Trump’s anti-immigration campaign, by Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs & Border Protection (CBP).
So why, you might ask, aren’t we simply pushing for a continued resolution on last year’s budget? Well, in addition to woefully underfunding programs that are vital to tens of millions of Americans, the current spending levels are also allowing Trump to run concentration camps at the border and build sections of wasteful border wall. A continuing resolution will maintain that status quo. We’ve been moving in the wrong direction, and this our chance to turn things around — at least to some extent.
The status quo is unacceptable. We need Democrats to push harder than ever this week, and Republicans to know we, and our voting power, aren’t going anywhere.

Today’s Action: Prepare for impeachment in two ways!
The House is releasing articles of impeachment TODAY, formalizing allegations that Trump abused his office for personal and political gain. A series of Intelligence and Judiciary Committee hearings summed up the damning evidence (frankly, unneeded, since Trump himself has admitted to everything), both of Trump’s original offenses of extorting foreign officials to influence the 2020 election and his obstruction of the ensuing investigation.
The vote is expected before Christmas, and we almost certainly will see an impeachment in the House. But that’s not the end of the road. Up next, the trial in the Senate.
We can expect to see Mitch McConnell and his GOP Senatorial cronie-crew run as swift and dishonest a trial as they can manage. But that doesn’t mean we can’t influence some of the more moderate Republican Senators to treat Trump’s deed as the crimes they are. And we do that by getting in touch with the voters those Senators listen to.
- Indivisible has identified the 13 Republican Senators who are most likely to swing toward impeachment. It’s all hands on deck to ensure Trump’s trial happens fairly and openly by calling voters in those states and asking them to make this demand of their Senator. Sign up for a shift today!
Phone shift done? Or at least scheduled? Good – now it’s time to reach Republicans in the House and Senate another way. The vote for Trump’s impeachment hasn’t been scheduled yet, but it will be very soon, likely in the next two weeks. And on the eve of that vote, Democrats across the country are taking to the streets.
- There are over 400 Nobody Is Above The Law events scheduled. Sign up for your local event – or start your own – to send a clear, media-covered message to Republicans that every vote to protect Trump is a vote against their own re-election.
