Tell President Biden to forgive $50,000 in student debt!
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has joined forces with Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and “Squad” member Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) to issue a resolution calling for $50,000 in debt relief per-student.
And they’re keeping the pressure on President Biden, bolstered by a wide array of moderates and progressives alike! Because although Biden is interested in addressing this issue, his $10,000 cap per-student falls drastically short of the problem. It’s time to push him to up his game!
We have an entire generation crushed under the weight of job scarcity and skyrocketing education costs, now struggling even harder due to the pandemic.
The $1.7 trillion student debt crisis is not a problem for the elite – it lands solidly on the shoulders of the 43 million middle and working class young people. And, students of color are disproportionately impacted, so much so that cancelling student loan debt has been called a major civil rights issue.
Forgiving student loan debt tackles an economic stimulus and institutionalized racial inequities in one go.
It’s a win/win situation…if we can convince the President to think big!

Tell Biden to close Trump’s concentration camps without delay!

Tell Biden to close Trump’s concentration camps without delay!
President Biden has ended Trump’s Zero Tolerance/family-separation policy, stopped construction on the border wall, and announced his plan to grant 11 million undocumented immigrants a path to citizenship.
Excellent. Now…he needs to close the border camps.
Add your name to demand President Biden closes all of Trump’s concentration camps and releases anyone held in custody NOW.
Over 14,000 immigrants are currently in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody. And over half of these detainees have tested positive since the onset of the pandemic.
Although Biden has halted new family separations, the inhumane conditions suffered under Trump have not changed – families will simply be caged together, crowded with hundreds of others in tight spaces with little opportunity to social distance or stay sanitized.
With new, more contagious strains from the U.K. now confirmed across the country – and predicted to be the dominant strain by March – it is a question of life or death to detainees that the camps are closed.
ICE Detainees must have the opportunity to shelter in safety, just like the rest of us. Biden must close the camps.
Sign here to demand President Biden close Trump’s hateful concentration camps once and for all, without delay!

Eliminate the filibuster!

Eliminate the filibuster!
Ending debate for most legislation in the Senate, and moving on to a final vote, requires 60 votes. Which means, the minority party may simply vote against ending debate – thereby blocking legislation that would otherwise pass the final vote with a simple majority. This is the filibuster…no longer epic speeches into the night.
The minority has nearly the same power as the majority, thanks to the filibuster. It’s a strong break from our Constitution, which envisioned simple majority rule. And, it’s been the favorite tool of the GOP to block Democrats’ most progressive attempts at real change…meaning Mitch McConnell still has enormous control.
Add your name to demand the Senate eliminate the undemocratic filibuster!
The filibuster’s past and present is racist. It has been used since the early 20th-century to block major pieces of civil rights legislation, dramatically slowing our progress toward being a nation-for-all.
And remember our fight to protect Dreamers from Trump? That only happened because the GOP used the filibuster to block The Dream Act in 2010. President Obama has said the filibuster made it impossible for him to effectively govern.
The filibuster HAS to go – now.
Sign here to tell Senators that ending the filibuster is the only way forward for our country.

Statehood for Washington, D.C.

Statehood for Washington, D.C.
Washington, D.C. has a population of approximately 700,000 people, giving the capital city a higher headcount than both Vermont and Wyoming. But unlike the residents of Vermont and Wyoming, who each have two Senators and one Representative in Congress, residents of D.C. have no voice at the federal level.
What’s more, D.C. is a plurality-Black city, meaning there’s a higher percentage (about 45%) of Black residents than any other race, making statehood a major civil rights issue. With a Democratic Trifecta in Congress and the White House, we must move swiftly to give D.C.’s residents the representation they have long deserved!
Call or email your Senators and demand their support for statehood for Washington D.C. – remind them it’s a major civil rights issue. If your Senators have already co-sponsored (S. 51), thank them!
Republicans aren’t even denying the political games behind their opposition. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is on the record stating he doesn’t want D.C. or Puerto Rico to ever reach statehood simply because he doesn’t want more Democrats in Congress. No care or consideration for the citizens in those areas who have zero representation to vote on their behalf and fight for their rights.
It’s classic GOP voter suppression to silence voters of color.
Statehood for D.C. would give Congressional voice to hundreds of thousands of BIPOCs who deserve it every bit as much as any other American. The time to enfranchise the people of D.C. is NOW.
Black votes matter. Call or email your Senators and ask them to co-sponsor and support statehood for Washington, D.C. If your Senators have already co-sponsored (S. 51), thank them…and urge them to let nothing get in the way of passing it!

Demand the Senate pass common sense gun safety laws!

Demand the Senate pass common sense gun safety laws!
Seven mass shootings in seven days. This is a uniquely American problem, and the solutions are clear.
It has been 27 years since Congress passed meaningful gun safety legislation, and thousands of people have died as a result of this gross inaction. But a few weeks ago, House Democrats passed two common sense and popular gun safety bills…and now they move to the Senate.
Add your name to demand the Senate pass universal background checks and expanded waiting periods on gun purchases!
An improved background check system might have prevented several recent mass shootings. One study found that 1-in-10 online gun purchases were made by individuals who would have been otherwise prevented by background checks due to rape, domestic violence, and other charges.
An enforced ten-day waiting period could cool dangerous impulses and give time for family and community to become aware of mass shooting plans – and help prevent them.
We must address the epidemic of bloodshed in our country, and these changes are a popular and common sense step in the right direction.
Sign here to demand the Senate support and pass common sense gun safety laws, like universal background checks and expanded waiting periods on purchases!

Recurring monthly checks for struggling families until the pandemic is over!

Recurring monthly checks for struggling families until the pandemic is over!
We are nearing the twelve-month mark of our worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. Millions of people have lost their jobs, and food and housing access. And the pandemic is more bleak than ever before, half a million Americans dead and rising.
Although Congress is about to issue a third stimulus check, the grand total of this support does not come close to covering a year of basic needs for struggling families.
But recurring monthly checks would.
Add your name to demand Congress and President Biden pass recurring monthly cash assistance for struggling families until the end of the pandemic!
At least eight million people have fallen into poverty since this pandemic started – and with the vaccine half-a-year away, that number will continue to grow. These numbers disproportionately include Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities – and many people of color are frontline workers but do not have access to unemployment insurance.
The economic toll of this pandemic could take generations to overcome – but it doesn’t have to if Congress and President Biden recognize the most effective way to keep families safe, fed, and housed.
Sign here to demand recurring month checks for the families who need it the most!

Censure McConnell for voting to acquit Trump and then ADMITTING he was guilty!

Censure McConnell for voting to acquit Trump and then ADMITTING he was guilty!
Moments after voting “not-guilty” on the charges to disgraced ex-President Trump for undermining our elections and inciting a deadly coup, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell stated publicly that Trump was 100% to blame.
McConnell then went on to clarify that his “not-guilty” vote was merely because Trump was no longer in office…after it was singularly thanks to McConnell’s scheming that the trial was delayed until after Trump left office.
Republican hypocrisy at its finest.
Add your name to demand the Senate censures Mitch McConnell for making a public mockery of the impeachment trial.
Trump’s disregard for democracy and penchant for dictatorship is monumentally dangerous to this country’s future. And so is McConnell’s – by sending the crystal clear message that he will not punish Trump (or any other future tyrant) in the face of undeniable guilt.
McConnell had a chance to lead his party into a post-Trump future, once-and-for-all separating the GOP from the violent Trump-era. Instead, McConnell has paved the way for the sequel.
Sign here to demand Mitch McConnell is censured for publicly undermining the main tool Congress has to remove a dictator from the presidency.

Fire every ICE officer involved in deporting 22 infants and children, despite Biden’s deportation moratorium!

Fire every ICE officer involved in deporting 22 infants and children, despite Biden’s deportation moratorium!
One of President Biden’s first actions upon taking office was establishing a 100-day deportation moratorium, temporarily halting the anti-immigrant mechanism that Trump so gleefully built his presidency upon. And although a Texas judge temporarily blocked the executive order, the judge still stated that only the most serious deportation cases should be allowed to continue (like, convicted felons).
At which point Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) went completely rogue and deported at least 72 people, including a two-month-old baby and 21 other completely innocent children to Haiti, which is currently in political turmoil and incredibly dangerous.
Add your name to demand every ICE officer that ordered or contributed sending 22 children into an active uprising – despite a deportation moratorium – is FIRED.
ICE has no interest in stopping deportations. They have been empowered and emboldened by Trump, who granted ICE powers to use pandemic “health protections” as an excuse to continue sending migrants and asylum seekers into inhumane conditions. It is not in their best interests to be led by a president who wants to slow them down.
Which is why public outcry on this inexcusable act of inhumanity must be overwhelming.
Sign here to demand every ICE officer involved in deporting 22 children to Haiti during Biden’s deportation moratorium is fired!

Tell Biden and Democrats in Congress not cave to Republican demands for a weaker relief bill

Tell Biden and Democrats in Congress not cave to Republican demands for a weaker relief bill
President Biden and Congress are considering a $1.9 trillion COVID relief bill. But the GOP and a few moderate Democrats are trying to weaken it, and may succeed if the party doesn’t hold firm!
For example: stimulus checks. A growing movement to lower the income cap from $75,000 to $50,000 would cut millions of struggling Americans off from a $1,400 stimulus check…including those who live in major cities where a $52,000 salary barely covers expenses and the impact of the pandemic has been severe (including many teachers and nurses).
Add your name to demand Democrats stand unified and back the strongest version of Biden’s COVID relief package – do not weaken it!
And set aside moderate Democrats for a moment, because Republicans want to cut Biden’s package down to a third of its original size… The height of a global pandemic is not the time for the GOP to hide behind so-called budget cuts, particularly after they fully supported Trump’s Tax Scam giveaway to millionaires and billionaires.
Struggling Americans need support NOW.
Sign here to demand Democrats pass Biden’s $1.9 trillion relief bill…and nothing less.
