Today’s Action: Write a letter to the editor about Trump’s cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security

When Trump was campaigning for president, he vowed he would not cut entitlements. Did we believe him? Of course not – but his voters did.

Just announced, Trump’s proposed 2021 budget includes nearly $1.8 trillion in cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. These cuts, if passed, would affect every corner of America. And although it won’t pass as-is with Democrats in power in the House, Trump’s intention is clear: win re-election, win back the House…and push through this bloodbath.

Literally hours before announcing the cuts, Trump (predictably) tweeted that he would not make any cuts. The Misinformation Train has left the station and it’s up to us to catch it and correct the course.

Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper, expressing how Trump’s proposed cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, and/or Social Security would affect your family or community. Try to reach Trump supporters by connecting in the ways we truly do share commonalities.

His budget doesn’t get better. Cuts also include 8% of the entire Education budget, over 25% of the Environmental Protection Agency, 9% of Health and Human Services…all while boosting Homeland Security (more on this tomorrow, btw) and giving his wall another $2 billion.

Republican voters are fighting through outright lies straight from the source. And as we’re all quite entrenched in the news sources we depend on, personal letters to the editor of local newspapers is one of the best ways to still reach voters across the aisle…and entitlements are some of the most universally shared topics to connect on.

Plus, it’s not only more pleasant than fighting with your uncle on Facebook, you’re also not dealing with nasty algorithms specifically designed to keep political commentary inside its own bubble. Get outside the bubble to really make an impact.

Send a letter to your local newspaper, explaining how your family or community will be affected if Trump’s proposed cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, or Social Security were to go through.

Today’s Action: Tune in for the Democratic Debates TONIGHT

Tonight’s Democratic debates are the last before the Nevada caucus. Election season is underway and with two states down and Super Tuesday less than two weeks away, we have limited remaining opportunities to vet our candidates and make the best decision for the November election.

Think you know everything already? No way! The candidates continue to announce new policies as they continue down the campaign trail. Elizabeth Warren, for example, has just released a new, ambitious climate change plan which we’ll certainly hear about tonight.

Tune in TONIGHT for the Democratic candidate debates on NBC and MSNBC at 9 pm EST / 6 pm PST. And, check out our one-stop shop to get to know the 2020 contenders!

There will be a decidedly different feel to this debate. For the first time, Bernie Sanders takes the stage as national frontrunner, with Pete Buttigieg holding a slim delegate lead, Amy Klobuchar surging, Elizabeth Warren fighting to regain her momentum, and Joe Biden trying to claw his way out of his Iowa/New Hampshire hole.

Also viewers will finally get an unscripted look at billionaire former Republican/Independent NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who most Americans know mostly from an unprecedented avalanche of primary ads backed by his immense personal fortune. With Bloomberg’s billions pushing him to an enviable position in the polls, the DNC dropped its donor requirements so Bloomberg (who is not accepting contributions) could take the stage tonight — which he does as new scandals seem to pop up by the day.

Regardless of who you’re pulling for – and especially if you’re still making a decision – there’s no time to waste in our thoughtful selection of the best candidate to take down Trump this November — and you can learn more about the candidates here.

Tune in TONIGHT at 9 pm EST / 6 pm PST for the Democratic candidate debate on NBC and MSNBC. Invite your family and friends and make it a watch-party!

Today’s Action: Write letters NOW to get out the vote in November

At best, about 60% of eligible Americans turn out to vote during presidential election years. With one of the most divisive presidents in history, this year’s turnout is predicted to be higher…on both sides.

Trump lost the popular vote in 2016 by 2.9 million votes – but he won enough votes in enough key states to win the electoral college. With high turnout expected from Republicans, we must focus all our efforts on turning those purple states blue.

Use Vote Forward to write letters to Democratic voters in key swing states to help Get Out The Vote this November – then mark your calendar to mail the letters on October 27th. Start in February and make a goal to add 40+ letters to your pile each month!

There are millions of registered Democratic voters in swing states to reach between now and November, to push that progressive turnout percentage to an all-time high. But if we try to get to them all in the last weekend before Voting Day, we physically could not succeed.

Slow-but-steady wins the race. Writing letters and stockpiling them over the next nine months is one of the best ways to make high-impact personal contact with other voters, especially if you live in a safely blue (or impossibly red) area.

We have the votes to defeat Trump…but we don’t necessarily have them in the right places yet. Let’s change that.

Get Out The Vote and defeat Trump by writing letters to Democratic voters in key swing states. Then, be sure to mail the letters on October 27th. Committing to writing 40+ letters a month means personally contacting over 350 voters this November!

PS — Please don’t forget to sign the petition to stop Trump’s sabotage of Obama’s Clean Power Plan before it’s too late, and check out the brilliant “Don’t Think of an Elephant” by George Lakoff — a quick read that contains the ultimate keys for Democrats to win elections — and arguments.

Tell the ABA to disbar Attorney General Barr for abusing his office to abet Trump’s partisan corruption

Tell the ABA to disbar Attorney General Barr for abusing his office to abet Trump’s partisan corruption

In his brief second tenure as Attorney General, William Barr has transformed the role of our nation’s top law enforcement officer into a corrupt consigliere for the president’s private interests, abandoning any pretense of impartiality or restraint.

After going out of his way to delegitimize the devastating findings of the Mueller report, Barr was implicated by the president in the Ukraine scandal, and multiple news sources revealed he’s traveled abroad (at American taxpayers’ expense) to meet with officials from Italy and Great Britain to urge them to baselessly “investigate the investigators” of the Russian election meddling conspiracy. Not content with merely appeasing President Trump and his desperate desire to validate victory in 2016, Barr has now reportedly turned this fishing expedition into a full-blown and completely unwarranted criminal investigation.

To put it plainly, this is a gross misuse of Justice Department resources. As Rep. Adam Schiff noted, Barr is “weaponizing the Justice Department to go after the president’s enemies.”

This follows recent reports of a private, one-on-one meeting with Fox News chairman, Rupert Murdoch, at a time when the reliably pro-Trump propaganda news channel has begun to report a bit more critically on the president’s bounty of misdeeds.

The responsibility bestowed upon the Attorney General is solemn, the power grand. And when the nation’s top lawyer for the federal government decides to behave like the president’s partisan attack dog, we find ourselves in a crisis of historic magnitude without modern precedent.

Demand that the American Bar Association investigate William Barr for disbarment for failing to faithfully execute his duties as Attorney General and for blatant misuse of government resources. The office of Attorney General serves the people of our country, not the current occupant of the White House.

Today’s Action: Censure Trump

Republicans in the Senate have refused to remove Trump from office, despite his crimes. And in the weeks after the vote, Trump has maintained his innocence, despite also admitting to doing exactly what he was impeached for.

Although the GOP ultimately failed to have a backbone in standing up to their supreme leader, several have admitted that, while they don’t think it merits removal from office, they believe Trump is in fact guilty of the abuses he’s been accused of – contrary to Trump’s crowing.

Time to call their bluff. If they think Trump’s actions were wrong, it’s time to counter with an action that’s right. Censure Donald Trump.

Call or email your Senators and tell them to support the resolution to censure Trump for his shameful and inappropriate behavior in withholding Ukraine’s funding for personal gain.

We did not get justice through a transparent impeachment trial. But even so, so many details of his crimes have surfaced that many in his own party have acknowledged he acted shamefully and inappropriately.

But these cowardly post-trial words don’t mean a thing without action – a yea/nay historical stamp on whether or not they believe Trump was wrong to use the power of his office for personal gain.

A censure will not remove him from office – but it will put each Senator on the record for their voters. And, it will provide a bipartisan counterpoint to Trump’s belligerent claims of innocence.

Email or call (202.224.3121) your Senators and urge them to move forward with a resolution to censure Trump for his crimes.

PS — Please don’t forget to sign the petition calling on Congress to restore the funding Trump cut to combat deadly disease, and check out the brilliant “Don’t Think of an Elephant” by George Lakoff — a quick read that contains the ultimate keys for Democrats to win elections — and arguments.
