Today’s Action: Tell the Senate we MUST investigate Kavanaugh accusations
Three women have come forward with allegations of sexual misconduct by Trump’s Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh in his younger years, with Deborah Ramirez and Julie Swetnick joining Christine Blasey Ford in their accusations. And today, Ford testifies before the Senate.
The weight on our nation of having a (second) Justice with a past of sexual misconduct and assault is enormous — no less heavy that it is a man who seems designed to dismantle Roe v. Wade.
But the GOP’s response to this monumental turn of events has been to push forward blindly, denying any possible issue. The Senate Judiciary Committee vote is scheduled for tomorrow at 9:30 am, less than 24 hours after Ford’s testimony and before either Ramirez or Swetnick have the opportunity to share their stories.
In addition to this apparent history of sexual misconduct (as if that weren’t enough – it is), Kavanaugh is the most unpopular and scandal-plagued nominee in U.S. history:
- He has been caught lying or misleading the Senate multiple times under oath
- His history is nebulous as Republicans continue to withhold documents to deceive the American public about Kavanaugh
- He will almost certainly overturn Roe v. Wade, sending our country back 40 years in women’s rights and healthcare.
And yet Republicans are forcing Kavanaugh through nominations, in their bid to confirm him before midterms and the very real possibility of losing their slim majority in the Senate.
This is not justice. Not for these women, and not for us. It’s time to turn up the volume and keep it cranked until Ford, Ramirez, and Swetnick get the FBI investigation they have deserved the past 30 years.
PS — Please don’t forget to sign the petition demanding Republican Senators stop shaming Dr. Ford and show her the respect she deserves, and check out the brilliant “Don’t Think of an Elephant” by George Lakoff — a quick read that contains the ultimate keys for Democrats to win elections — and arguments.
