Today’s Action: Make the personal connection only YOU can make

19 days to the election. You’ve been phone banking, text banking, writing letters, and fundraising to Get Out The Vote for the Blue Wave 2020. THANK YOU – and keep it up!

But here’s one more action to take in the next few days: make the personal connection only YOU can make.

Shortly after Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s death, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez released a video to honor Ginsburg’s legacy and talk about next steps in the election. She said:

“…there is someone in your life that only you can get through to….You can get through to them in a way that maybe nobody else can. There’s someone in your life that maybe they won’t listen to anybody else, but you can get through to them.”

Take a moment to consider the people in your life who voted for Trump in 2016, who you expect will vote Trump now, or who need encouragement to vote at all! Why are you the best person to connect with them?

Take a breath, and reflect on why this person is in your life. Consider why you care about their health and happiness, and why they might care about yours. Remember why you love this person. Then, set your plan to have the conversation and initiate it, whether that’s sending a text or email to set up the call… or simply calling right now!

Ask this person where they’re at with their vote and what changes they want to see in their life and in this country. Really listen to their needs and fears, ask questions! Then share with them why you’re voting for Biden/Harris, and why it matters so much to you that they do the same. Remember: only you have the ability to get through to them.

Voting has begun in many states, so this isn’t a conversation you can delay. Go with love.

Choose the person in your life who you know is planning to vote against Biden/Harris or not vote at all, and who only you can get through to. Make the call.
