Censure Trump for his violence-inciting rhetoric after synagogue attack

We now have clear evidence that Trump’s incessant, violent rhetoric is inciting his followers to commit vicious acts against his most frequent targets, and we call on the United States Congress to officially censure the president for repeated, irresponsible action that led to the deaths of innocent Americans.

On the heels of a Florida Republican sending bombs to more than a dozen Democrats against whom Trump regularly lashes out, there was a shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania that left 11 dead in the worst act of anti-Semitic violence in American history. The attack was carried out by Robert Bowers, a raging anti-Semite who all but worshiped Trump and echoed the president’s explicit sentiments as justification for carrying out his attack.

Bowers claimed that that Jews were helping transport members of the caravan that right-wing media has desperately latched onto in an effort to rile up their base ahead of midterms. The same verbiage was used by Trump, who claimed that the migrants were staging an “invasion.”

Trump has buried his heels, claiming that the media is to blame, again refusing to take even a modicum of responsibility.

Enough is enough. It is as clear as day that Trump’s constant use of violent rhetoric is being repeated by his followers. He bears direct responsibility for the radicalization of his supporters. Whether he admits it or not, blood is on his hands.

We, the undersigned, call on the United States Congress to censure Trump for his words and actions. The families of the victims deserve an acknowledgement from our leaders for the outsized role the president played in the murder of their loved ones. It is, quite literally, the least they can do.
