Today’s Action: Support the Paycheck Fairness Act – vote expected next week!
2018 was a record year in electing women to Congress…and now, the Democratic women have produced some fantastic legislation that every single lady and ally across the nation (regardless of political party) should be interested in supporting. Let’s hear it for bipartisan issues!
You probably already know these statistics. Compared to white male wages-per-dollar in the United States:
These numbers are why Democratic women in Congress have introduced the Paycheck Fairness Act, to strengthen equal pay protections for women of all backgrounds…and the vote is expected next week.
Or, say it in person this week during March Recess! Check out both the Indivisible Event Guide and Town Hall Project for the in-person March Recess opportunities in your area.
The Paycheck Fairness Act bolsters the Equal Pay Act of 1963 by adding much needed additional resources and tools for women and employers to guarantee fair compensation.
If passed, employers would be required to show justified cause for compensating different amounts for the same job; employees who inquire or whistleblow about wage practices would be protected from retaliation; and the act would strengthen penalties for violating equal pay law.
One of the biggest changes we can make to end inequality in our country is actually paying workers what they deserve. This legislation is long overdue.
Email or call (202.224.3121) your Members of Congress and ask them to support the Paycheck Fairness Act. If they’ve already cosponsored (House/Senate), thank them for supporting women and equality!
Or make your request in person — check the Indivisible Event Guide and Town Hall Project for March Recess opportunities in your area.
