You probably already know these statistics. Compared to white male wages-per-dollar in the United States:

White women make 81.9 cents

Black women make 67.7 cents

Hispanic women make 62.1 cents
These numbers are why Democratic women in Congress have introduced the Paycheck Fairness Act, to strengthen equal pay protections for women of all backgrounds.
The Paycheck Fairness Act bolsters the Equal Pay Act of 1963 by adding (clearly) needed additional resources and tools for women and employers to guarantee fair compensation.
If passed, employers would be required to show justified cause for compensating different amounts for the same job; employees who inquire or whistleblow about wage practices would be protected from retaliation; and the act would strengthen penalties for violating equal pay law.
One of the biggest adjustments we can make toward ending inequality in our country is actually paying workers what they deserve. This legislation is long overdue.
