Today’s Action: Tell the House to support universal healthcare!
Last week, Trump announced a new assault on the Affordable Care Act (ACA), asking the courts to strike down Obama’s legacy healthcare legislation in its entirety and drop 22 million Americans from their coverage. We’ll see him in court, where SCOTUS has twice upheld challenges to the ACA.
But looking above and beyond, in Congress, more than 100 Democrats in the House have cosponsored a bill to create universal healthcare. The Medicare for All Act seeks to finally provide what even Obamacare couldn’t secure: a single-payer (government-funded) healthcare system that guarantees quality medical coverage for every single American (and yes, even immigrants!)
And what’s more: it could save the United States (and taxpayers) $350 billion a year, even as it’s saving lives and guaranteeing the right to healthcare.
Call or email your Representatives and urge them to cosponsor The Medicare for All Act (and if they already have cosponsored, thank them!) Tell them universal, quality healthcare should be a right for every American.
The Medicare for All Act would cut our impossibly high healthcare costs by setting standardized prices for medical procedures, creating budgets based on previous years’ actual spending (preventing false cost inflation), and easing the path to more affordable generic lifesaving medications.
Further, the act seeks to cut administrative spending, which accounts for 25% of healthcare costs. Without the need for hospital employees to sort through thousands of insurance plans, the elimination of market cap motivation, and little marketing budget needed in a single-payer system, The Medicare for All Act trims the spending significantly without touching the quality care provided.
Seems like a healthy choice to us.
Email or call (202.224.3121) your Representatives and ask them to cosponsor The Medicare for All Act – and thank them if they’ve already signed on!
