Today’s Action: Support the ENOUGH National School Walkout
Today at 10 am, thousands of students will participate in the ENOUGH National School Walkout for 17 minutes – one minute for every life lost in the February 14 massacre at Marjory Stoneman High School in Parkland, Florida. Their young voices make a bold protest against the GOP lawmakers who have allowed the tragedy of gun violence to persist in the face of decades of public outcry.
Many lives lost to gun violence have survived in national consciousness, from Columbine and Sandy Hook to Pulse Nightclub and Las Vegas, and now Marjory Stoneman. But thousands more do not make the headlines in a country where, on an average day, 96 Americans are killed with guns (nearly 13,000 lives a year).
Honor in isolation isn’t enough: to truly honor, we must act.
The tide is turning in our country, with progressive voices overturning GOP negligence in unprecedented ways. A dozen states are considering “extreme risk” or “red flag” laws to remove guns from those who pose threats — Rhode Island has already passed it and Vermont is very close. And through peaceful boycott, Democratic voters have spurred at least a dozen major corporations to discontinue association with the NRA.
And we aren’t stopping there.
PS — Please don’t forget to sign the petition telling Secretary Zinke to not let Trump end ban on killing endangered species so his sons can hunt trophies, and join the vast majority of Americans demanding Congress protect Dreamers NOW!
