Today’s Action: Protect the ACA and patients with pre-existing conditions
In 27 states, 25-30% of the population under 65 lives with pre-existing medical conditions. In 11 other states, that percentage jumps to over 30%. Only since the enactment of Obamacare have these millions of Americans had access to quality, affordable healthcare, and to remove their protections could devastate their health and financial stability.
Which is exactly what 20 GOP-led states and Trump are attempting to do: kill the ACA by killing protections for anyone with pre-existing conditions. In December, a Texas (Bush-appointed conservative) judge made a shady Friday-night ruling in their favor. Now under appeal, the ACA may head to the Supreme Court for a third time.
If successful, Republicans would price 52 million Americans out of insurance. And not just those with pre-existing conditions, but multitudes of healthier individuals caught in the fallout of the this ACA assault would cause (on top of those who will already lose out, thanks to removal of the individual mandate as part of the GOP Tax Scam.)
16 mostly-blue states are part of the countersuit to protect their constituents from losing desperately needed healthcare…which means we’re now in an all-out legal battle to save lives.
From AL, AR, AZ, FL, GA, IN, KS, LA, ME, MO, MS, ND, NE, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, WI, or WV? Call or email your Governor and demand withdrawal from the lawsuit against the ACA.
From AK, CO, ID, IA, MD, MI, MT, NV, NH, NM, OH, OK, PA, or WY? Call or email your Governor and urge him or her to join the countersuit to protect the ACA.
From CA, CT, DC, DE, HI, IL, KY, MA, MN, NC, NJ, NY, OR, RI, VA, VT, or WA? Call or email your Governor and thank him or her for leading the charge to protect the ACA.
Regardless of the outcome of the lawsuit, you can bet on seeing spikes in your insurance premium this year, thanks to the GOP’s incessant sabotage of our healthcare system. That’s why we have to work to mitigate the damage Republicans are able to inflict.
Call your Governor and urge them to save Americans with pre-existing conditions and uphold the ACA by dropping the lawsuit or joining the protective countersuit. And remind them that they represent us, not insurance companies.
