It takes a village to maintain the horror show at our border. A variety of non-government contractors support the day-to-day needs of concentration camps and ICE raids (ex: the Department of Homeland Security pays Amazon to host its data). The politicians crafting these policies need big donors to fund their re-election campaigns (ex: AT&T donated $2 million to Trump’s inauguration celebration).
And workers aren’t always immune to their boss’s political viewpoints. This week, Shell union workers were forced to choose between watching Trump speak or losing wages…and, they were warned, no protesting allowed.
Activist Shannon Coulter (no relation to Ann Coulter) organizes a carefully curated list of businesses and leaders who actively contribute big funds to Trump’s campaign of hatred towards immigrants…and she’s got the email addresses, so that you can speak your mind directly to the source.
Look through Shannon Coulter’s #GrabYourWallet boycott list. Choose 2-3 businesses that you currently use. Email their leadership to stop contributing services or finances to Trump’s border policies, or you’ll take your money elsewhere…and then do that, if they don’t respond appropriately.
Corporate culture can make us feel, as individuals, helpless to enact change. This helplessness is a MYTH taught to us by those who are wealthy, those who are currently in charge. It’s a myth that is vital to keeping capitalism in place, keeping stock prices high, keeping institutions intact.
We’ve seen two and a half years of the power of individuals who decide on their own to take action – the result being a Democratic House of Representatives, DACA in place, statewide response to climate change and gun safety, felon voter rights restored in Florida, the resignation of multiple White House employees…and the shutdown of Ivanka Trump’s fashion brand.
That last bullet point? That was consumers, as individuals, deciding to #GrabYourWallet and take their money elsewhere. The businesses on this list are huge, yes, but they are fully capable of changing their policies with enough consumer pressure. So today, add your voice to the movement and boycott.
Find 2-3 businesses you frequent on Shannon Coulter’s #GrabYourWallet list. Email the contact provided, telling them you demand a statement that they will not support Trump’s re-election campaign or any election-related events. If they don’t provide it, prepare to take your money elsewhere.
