Today’s Action: Congressional investigation of Brett Kavanaugh
The House has launched impeachment proceedings against Trump in light of his open urging of Ukrainian president to discredit 2020 Democratic presidential hopeful Joe Biden. But – Trump isn’t the ONLY federal figure facing new evidence of his wrongdoing.
Re-enter to the stage Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, who faced national outcry in 2018 during his confirmation hearings for sexual assault allegations. The hearings and FBI investigation primarily focused on the witness testimony of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford.
But another victim, Deborah Ramirez, tried to make her case to the FBI against Kavanaugh and was soundly dismissed. A 10-month investigation and a new book (The Education of Brett Kavanaugh: An Investigation) by New York Times journalists have revealed just how credible, damaging, and outrageous Kavanaugh’s past actions, and the FBI’s disregard, were towards Ms. Ramirez.
Despite coming forward and being deemed “credible” following an FBI interview, Ms. Ramirez was never asked to testify before Congress. She provided the FBI with 25 names of witnesses who could corroborate her story. The FBI interviewed zero of the names, even those who proactively attempted to reach out.
It is unacceptable that Brett Kavanaugh made it to the Supreme Court, despite the damning testimony of Dr. Blasey Ford. It is unacceptable that the FBI and Congress did not do their due diligence to investigate the credible and corroborated testimony of Ms. Ramirez. It is unacceptable that two justices credibly accused of sexual misconduct have been allowed to remain on the highest court of the land.
On behalf of sexual assault victims everywhere, Congress must take a stand and investigate Brett Kavanaugh.
