Today’s Action: Gun safety laws NOW!

Since March 16 – the day the Atlanta shootings killed six Asian American women in massage parlors – the United States has faced 60 mass shootings.

We are mourning last Thursday’s tragedy, when a gunman opened fire at an Indianapolis FedEx facility, killing nine and wounding seven. At least four of the victims were members of the city’s Sikh community – for many, a horrifying sequel to the 2012 white supremacist mass shooting at a Sikh temple in Oak Creek, Wisconsin.

But between Thursday and today, there have been at least seven more mass shootings. These are unfathomable numbers.

Call or email your Members of Congress and demand comprehensive, common sense gun safety laws to stop mass shootings, including universal background checks and expanded waiting periods.

Indiana scores a D on the Giffords Law Center gun safety scorecard. South Carolina, which lost seven lives in a mass shooting on April 7, scores an F. Six dead in Texas on April 3…also an F.

It’s not a perfect measurement, but the statistics are clear: of the top-10 states with the worst gun death rates, nine of them score F’s. Gun safety laws save lives, and the absence of them loses them.

90% of Americans support universal background checks, a rare bipartisan topic. Congress must put an end to this violence, and act swiftly to pass common sense gun safety laws.

Email or call (202.224.3121) your Members of Congress and demand universal background checks and expanded waiting periods – common sense gun safety laws broadly supported by Americans from both sides of the aisle!
