Today’s Action: Expand Medicare in Biden’s recovery plan!

Coming out of a global pandemic that has killed nearly 600,000 Americans and cost millions more their healthcare, it has never been clearer that public health must be a priority in any recovery plan that Congress passes. And instead of reinventing the wheel, there’s already a program with a proven track record for quality care: Medicare.

The current age of eligibility for Medicare is 65. But if Congress and President Biden lower the age to 55, an additional 40 million Americans will have access to good, low-cost coverage…and lowering to 50 even more!

Biden made a campaign promise to do just that, and he’s supported by 85% of Democrats and 69% of Republicans! As the song says (though it wasn’t referring to bipartisan platforms), who could ask for anything more?

Call or email your Members of Congress and demand they expand Medicare, by:

  • Lowering the age of eligibility to 50
  • Expanding Medicare to cover dental, vision, and hearing care
  • And, empowering Medicare to negotiate lower prescription drug prices

In addition to lowering the age of eligibility, expanding Medicare’s coverage to dental, vision, and hearing care would reduce significant out-of-pocket costs for seniors – who often have to simply skip these important healthcare checks due to cost prohibition.

And prescription drug costs are twice as high for Americans as folks in other Western industrialized countries, and out-of-pocket expenses increase every year. Allowing Medicare to negotiate drug prices would lower costs for everyone, whether you’re enrolled or not.

Medicare is a winning and popular program, and so are these proposed expansions. It’s a true no-brainer to increase its reach to provide more quality healthcare for more folks. Let’s help Biden achieve his campaign promise by putting the pressure on Congress to deliver!

Email or call (202.224.3121) your Members of Congress and tell them to expand Medicare by lowering the eligibility age to 55, including dental/vision/hearing care in the coverage, and allowing Medicare to negotiate drug prices!
