Today’s Action: Tell Biden to declare climate change a state of emergency

In the largest global survey on climate ever conducted, covering 1.2 million individuals in 50 countries, 64% said climate change is an emergency, and 90% say our leaders aren’t doing enough.

President Biden has begun rolling out his $1.9 climate plan. Much of it is good: rejoining the Paris Climate Accord, a ban on new drilling leases, commissions on environmental justice and green job creation…

But his legislative agenda is unlikely to pass the Senate, which is why Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer(D-NY) has called on Biden to declare a state of emergency over climate change.

Call or email your Members of Congress and ask them to publicly urge President Biden to declare a state of emergency to rapidly and aggressively fight climate change without GOP chokeholds.

Disgraced ex-President Trump used a state of emergency to build his wall – hardly an emergency, but an example of how this power can be implemented to make big things happen.

Frankly, we still need the Green New Deal, which calls for 100% clean energy by 2030 using a carbon tax, a date and a method Biden has refused to commit to (his current goal is by 2050, no tax). And while we’ll continue to urge our reps toward the more progressive plan, today we must urge Biden’s current plan along as successfully as possible to get things jump-started.

Email or call (202.224.3121) your Members of Congress and urge them to publicly support Chuck Schumer’s call for Biden to declare climate change a state of emergency!
