Today’s Action: Pass the For The People Act

We’ve known for quite some time that this country would be consistently and overwhelmingly Democratic if folks were able to get around the many barriers the GOP has set in place to suppress their voices. Voter suppression is one of the clearest examples of widespread institutionalized racism in this country.

BIPOC activists have spent years motivating their communities to overcome voter suppression, and Democrats’ position of power now in the White House and Congress is due to these monumental efforts.

With Democrats in control, we must prioritize and empower BIPOC people by eliminating racist obstacles to voting. The “For The People Act” may sound familiar to you, because it was the first piece of legislation the freshly Democratic-controlled House passed in 2019. It’s time to make it a law…but with the filibuster still in place, we need all Democrats and 10 Senate Republicans to pass it.

Call or email your Members of Congress and urge them to respect and improve our democratic election process by co-sponsoring and passing H.R. 1/S.1, For The People Act of 2021 by any means necessary.

The Act is a sweeping upgrade of election accessibility, transparency, and security. It creates a national voter registration program, makes Election Day a national holiday, and crushes gerrymandering and voter roll purges.

And, it includes campaign finance reform, limiting foreign lobbying and requiring SuperPACS to disclose donors. It even includes support for a constitutional amendment to Citizens United.

It also requires presidential candidates to release their tax returns…something that New York State prosecutors have been fighting for for over a year in their ongoing criminal investigation of our disgraced ex-President.

As the title says…it’s voting rights for the people, which is where voting should belong, but often doesn’t.

Email or call (202.224.3121) your Members of Congress and tell them NOW is the time to repair our bruised democracy and respect voters…especially after the GOP’s repeated attacks this past election. Demand they support and pass H.R. 1/S.1, For The People Act of 2021.
