Today’s Action: Make the expanded Child Tax Credit permanent!

As part of the American Rescue Plan, eligible families are now receiving $3,600 per child under age six and $3,000 per child between the ages of six and 17. Though the one-time expansion and monthly payments will greatly improve economic conditions for tens of millions of Americans, President Biden could go leaps further and make the Child Tax Credit permanent, and with additional improvements.

According to the ACLU, making the Child Tax Credit permanent would mean cutting child poverty by 40% and taking 50% of Black children out of poverty. Alongside permanency, expansions on the program that allow it to serve as an allowance that reaches all children would change millions of lives for the better.

Write President Biden and let him know that expanding upon the Child Tax Credit as a permanent program is a crucial step in creating a more equitable America!

Not only are the program’s benefits monumental for working families across the nation, it is also supported by a plurality of voters across demographics. In addition, an overwhelming 84% of Black voters support the expanded Child Tax Credit. The impact this could have on closing the racial wealth gap is significant.

Child poverty will not go away at the end of COVID-19. It is a national crisis that has plagued our communities for a long time, with hundreds more children being born into poverty each day. This is an issue that can not be abandoned at the end of the American Rescue Plan; our nation’s leaders must work diligently for our youth to obtain equitable and sustainable lives.

Write President Biden and demand the extension of the Child Tax Credit, with significant measures that will greatly impact the rates of child poverty!

PS — Please don’t forget to sign the petition demanding Congress protect workers’ right to unionize and collective bargaining, and be sure to follow OD Action on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
