Today’s Action: March for Immigrant Children on Saturday, June 30
After two months of separating at least 2,300 immigrant children from their parents, Trump caved to massive political pressure and issued an executive order last week to keep immigrant families united. Except for two huge caveats:
- Immigrant children will now be jailed alongside their parents indefinitely while they await the asylum process, which can take months to years. Some of these children are infants. In jail. In America.
- Trump’s “plan” to reunite the children he kidnapped with their families could leave parents separated from their kids for years or worse. And it’s even unclear where many of these children are – many taken to different states, far away from their parents’ entry points. Lawyers and activists are currently on literal scavenger hunts, attempting to piece together the trails.
Thanks to the executive order, we know that Trump is feeling the heat from our protests — but these kids still need our help to get out of jail and find their families.
And that’s why we once again take to the streets on Saturday, June 30th.
With his zero-tolerance policy in place, Trump used a court case (“the Flores settlement“) to justify his choice to rip babies out of mothers’ arms, because the Flores settlement has federal restrictions on detaining children.
Now, he’s trying to bully the courts into just getting rid of the Flores settlement completely so that he can keep kids in jail while maintaining his zero-tolerance policy, proving once again that Trump believes he’s above the law.
He’s not. And we’re going to let him know it.
