Today’s Action: Attend a Town Hall during Congressional Recess

Both houses of Congress are in recess next week for the 4th of July holiday…which means many of our representatives are flying home for vacation even as the Trump Administration continues its wreckingball pathway through millions of lives.

Recess is our primary opportunity to speak directly to our reps, even more effectively than phone calls, emails, and tweets. This week, we Show Up and Speak Out…and there’s a LOT to speak out about.

Check TownHallProject.org to see if your representatives are planning a Town Hall. If they aren’t, call them and ask why they’re afraid to face their constituents, and then speak your mind on one of the topics below!

Can’t remember/decide what to focus on? We’re here to help:

• Asylum for Victims of Domestic Violence: Pass legislation to grant asylum to immigrant women who are battered and threatened in their own countries, without any governmental or human rights protections.
• #DefundHate: Tell your reps to abolish Immigrant Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE). Most Democrats regularly vote to renew and increase funding for the CBP and ICE which are being used as Trump’s personal oppression force. We need Democrats to up their game and defund the hate.
• End Family Jails: The only way out is how Trump came in — demand legislation to overturn his “zero tolerance” policy, which has indefinitely jailed thousands of immigrant children.
• Keep Planned Parenthood Funded: Pass legislation to keep secure Title X (family planning) funding for organizations like Planned Parenthood which also provide abortion services/referrals. Save women’s lives, especially in areas that offer no alternative for women’s health services.
• Protect Muslim Immigrants: Pass legislation to overturn Trump’s ‘Travel’ Ban, which blocks travel for millions of Muslims hailing from Muslim-majority countries.
• Stand up for healthcare and against tax giveaways, combat Trump’s fascist court nominees, protect the planet from their poisonous policies, hold the administration accountable for its rampant corruption… Pick your poison. There’s really no shortage of threats.

PS. If you’re in the D.C. area TODAY, Women’s March is holding a #WomenDisobey mass civil disobedience demonstration to demand that Trump stop criminalizing undocumented immigrants and tearing children away from their parents.
