Today’s Action: Block all judicial confirmations until more coronavirus relief
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has reconvened the Senate for the first time in more than five weeks. But it’s not to produce much-needed financial relief to states or small businesses, package a second stimulus check or rent/mortgage relief, or even to dig up more personal protection equipment (PPE) for hospitals and other frontline workers.
No…it’s to jam in as many of Trump’s right-wing lifetime judicial confirmations as McConnell can while the rest of the country struggles through stay-at-home mandates, 20% unemployment rates, and economic re-openings in the face of worsening infection rates.
Call, email, and TWEET at your Senators and demand they fight and block ALL judicial confirmations until we have adequate coronavirus relief and protections. Confirming right-wing judges to lifetime positions should NOT be the Senate’s priority.
Mitch McConnell has had a longtime goal of packing our judicial system with as many of Trump’s ultra-conservative nominees as possible, so that the legacy of this repulsive administration can last an additional half-century. McConnell’s even asking older judges to retire now, so that he can fill their positions before November in case either he or Trump lose power.
And McConnell’s been successful, causing a “legislative graveyard” of more than 250 House-passed bills to die away while he focused on this singular goal. And true to his form, instead of leading the Senate through its job of crafting legislation to help the American people survive this global crisis, McConnell has reconvened the Senate to continue his mission.
It’s absolutely unacceptable. And our Senators from both parties need to hear that from us loud and clear.
