Today’s Action: Block Idaho’s Anti-Trans Bill

In the middle of a global pandemic unlike anything we have experienced in living history, Idaho Republicans aren’t focused on slowing the spread of COVID-19. In fact, the state legislature didn’t pass a single coronavirus prevention bill before adjourning on Friday. So what were they working on this week?

Anti-trans legislation, of course.

In fact, they passed two bills this week, one banning gender changes on birth certificates, and the other banning trans kids from participating in sports of any kind, including elementary school and recreational sports.

Commit an hour this weekend or Monday to supporting the trans community by having real conversations with Idaho voters at this critical time. Sign up to phonebank today, urging them to push Idaho’s Governor Brad Little to veto both anti-trans bills.

Anti-trans legislation is political malpractice, an oppressive and desperate ploy to lure transphobic Republican voters into ignoring all other problems the party has created and vote GOP in November. These particular bills are no different – and Republicans know this, as a measure very similar to the birth certificate bill has already been ruled unconstitutional. In fact, it’s estimated the legal costs alone of inevitably losing this battle (again) will cost Idaho taxpayers $1 million.

And even if the bills aren’t signed in to law, even if both are ultimately overturned by litigation, the damage caused by promoting these policies is measurable in the bullying, harassment, violence, and suicide rates of transgender youth.

The trans community needs compassionate allies to speak out on their behalf and to connect with the Idaho voters who put these lawmakers in charge, particularly now when election coverage and COVID-19 are drowning out other very real concerns.

URGENT: Make calls for the trans community this weekend to block the two anti-trans bills in Idaho! Sign up for a shift today to connect with Idaho voters, urging them to push their governor to veto both.
