Today’s Action: Tell the Congress to end U.S. terror in Yemen
Last week, progressive leaders in both the House and Senate reintroduced legislation to end US support of the Saudi-backed war in Yemen. 50,000-80,000 Yemenis have already been killed and 13 million more are starving to death, but Trump has continued his praise AND weapons supply for the Saudi Arabian regime responsible…possibly due to his own private business interests in Saudi Arabia.
This legislation had broad bipartisan support in 2018, passing the GOP-controlled Senate 56-41. Unfortunately, former House Speaker Paul Ryan (who departed with a 12% approval rating) then effectively stalled the conversation by including language in the farm bill that prevented the House from taking further action in 2018.
With Democrats in power in the House, it’s time to pick it back up — because Yemenis can’t wait anymore.
The Saudi-led war in Yemen is being called the worst humanitarian crisis of our time and has been fueled in part by the United States, which has been supplying weapons and supplies to this brutal genocide.
Trump is aggressively in support of the continued murder of the Yemeni people — but he has lost to public pressure before, and we need every Senator and Representative to know that this is an issue worthy of facing him down.
