Today’s Action: Join Alyssa Milano for “Artists & Activism: Lights, Camera, Action” today at 11:30 am
With our Education Secretary Betsy DeVos working to use federal funding designated for school computers to buy guns for teachers, there has never been a more urgent time to bump up the conversation surrounding gun reform. This work will continue to include engaging with our elected officials. But grassroots efforts outside of Congress and State capitals are equally important — learning how to address our deadly and uniquely American epidemic of gun violence in our communities, schools, and families.
NoRA (No Rifle Association) is one such grassroots effort, formed in the wake of the Parkland, FL school shooting. Their goal: taking on the National Rifle Association, and the politicians who accept blood-money, through both hard policy and arts and culture.
And you can join in on the conversation today. NoRA is live-streaming a special free event on Facebook from 11:30 am – 12:30 pm, introducing the new anti-gun music video “Too Many Bodies,” and hosting a panel discussion including actor and activist Alyssa Milano and Emmy-nominated Joanne Devito on how art can be used to educate and heal our public from gun violence.
The anti-gun violence movement has swept the nation this past year, following back-to-back mass shootings and the revelation of the NRA’s $30 million donation to the Trump campaign.
With a Republican majority in Congress, we may have to wait until after midterms before we see any sweeping gun safety policy changes. But that’s exactly the point: while we continue our fight to flip Congress, we can start NOW making an impact in our communities and laying the groundwork for change.
And the good folks of NoRA and Too Many Bodies are here to help usher in the revolution.
