Today’s Action: Stop the GOP from taking away a woman’s right to choose

Title X: a family planning grant that funds birth control and STD treatment for 4 million Americans a year. What it does not fund: abortions.

But in his latest attack against women, Trump has announced his intention to cut off Title X federal funding for family planning to any clinic that also provides abortion services, and even to healthcare professionals who provide advice about those clinics.

What would this look like? Planned Parenthood alone serves 41% of the patients who benefit from the $260 million Title X funding. If Trump is successful, Planned Parenthood will lose ALL federal funding and 41% of Title X recipients are about to lose – not just abortion access – but their primary (and sometimes ONLY) source of healthcare and birth control.

Losing “lifesaving” healthcare access is not hyperbole: To be blunt, Trump’s cuts will result in more women dying.

Call or email all of your reps — Congressional and State — and demand they stand up for the constitutional rights of women to have safe, affordable healthcare and abortion access.

Meanwhile, GOP legislators at the state level have made serious attacks against abortion rights as well. Iowa recently passed a “heartbeat” law, banning all abortions once a fetal heartbeat is detected — usually around 6 weeks and before most women know they are even pregnant. Mississippi and Kentucky recently passed similar laws.

The GOP goal is to pass legislation that’s then challenged in court, hoping one will make its way to the Supreme Court and ultimately overturn Roe v. Wade. Their strategy has precedent — which is why we must work now to prevent the other state laws from passing.
