Today’s Action: End. Deportations. NOW.
During his campaign, President Biden promised to halt deportations immediately. And he started to, issuing an executive order to halt deportations for 100 days. But now, after a hiccup in court, he has completely (and unnecessarily) backtracked.
Biden has deported over 26,000 immigrants – including children and infants – in just over a month, many back into incredibly unsafe environments. This is a far cry from Biden’s campaign promises to completely halt this horrific practice.
In fact, with Biden’s latest order, we are back within spitting distance of Obama’s deportation policies, which Biden has admitted were a failure. Business-as-usual is a very, VERY bad place to be.
Call or email your Members of Congress and demand a COMPLETE halt to deportations NOW. President Biden needs to keep his promise to Democrats — the lives and safety of thousands of immigrants are at stake.
Last week, Biden re-opened ICE’s abilities to deport “high priority” cases, which includes: 1. undocumented immigratns suspected of being a national security threat, 2. those convicted of felonies or gang-related offenses, 3. or anyone who has tried to enter on or after November 1, 2020.
If this doesn’t sound like a troubling reversal to you – and it should – just wait, because it gets worse. Biden’s orders go much further, also giving ICE authority to deport “non-priority” cases (i.e. none of the above), as long as a superior signs off on the action.
Which of course, ICE absolutely will do, and abusively so.
Email or call (202.224.3121) your Members of Congress and demand they STOP DEPORTATIONS NOW.
