Today’s Action: Oversight on corporations taking bailouts NOW
The Republican Party stays in business by keeping big business well-oiled, and crushing any pesky worker rights issues that get in the way of profit. That’s why the GOP’s primary talking points are finding ways to convince working and middle class voters that pro-corporate/pro-millionaire policy is actually what’s best for the people (and suppressing the voices of those who know better).
And THAT is why the coronavirus financial stimulus packages have thus far included an abysmal lack of corporate oversight. Republicans refused to place any restrictions or oversight on nearly half a trillion dollars of bailout funds to large corporations…companies that are terrified because they spent their profits on stock buybacks instead of investing in initiatives that could keep them afloat on a rainy day.
Email or call (202.224.3121) your Members of Congress and demand the following policies on corporate bailouts in the next coronavirus financial stimulus package:
- Require all corporations maintain their complete employee roster
- Require a minimum wage of $15/hour for any corporation that takes bailout funds
- Block bailout funds from being used for executive bonuses, stock buybacks, golden parachute payments, or dividends
- No bailout funds for lobbying efforts and strict transparency on political spending
- Require seats on corporate boards for workers and preserve all collective bargaining agreements
Economic stimulus is a good thing – but giving away billions without any worker protections or executive bonus restrictions is a backdoor deal done in plain sight.
Congressional Republicans need to hear from us loud and clear that we see exactly what they’re doing. But Democrats also need to know that we’ve got their back as they dig in and fight harder for oversight on corporate bailouts…and a few moderates might need a firm push in the right direction.
Email or call (202.224.3121) your Members of Congress and tell them to insist on corporate oversight in the next coronavirus stimulus package (read them the list above).
