Today’s Action: The Plan for 2019 (Part 1) – and save the date for Whose House? Our House! Day of Action on January 3rd!

Happy New Year! It’s officially 2019 and we are so excited for the road ahead. The Democrats take the House in just two days and Trump remains deeply unpopular. Time to get to work at a whole new level.

The good folks of Indivisible have released a plan to go on the offense the next two years. We encourage the OD Action community to read the whole thing — and we’re dedicating today and tomorrow to sharing some of the highlights….

We set the agenda – and we don’t make bad deals. With control in the House, we get to decide what to work on. Any legislation passed by the House will need to be approved by both the GOP-controlled Senate and signed by Trump. This means Democrats may be tempted to make unacceptable concessions to get things through – so Democrats will need our constant encouragement not to relinquish the progressive values that voted them into power.

We want Congressional investigations with House Committees. Trump has stacked years of scandal — and we now have the power to investigate. We’ll start with investigations into federal response in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria, family separation at the border, the GOP sabotage of the ACA, Trump’s tax returns…and much more.

We’re on the defense in the Senate – but we have tools. Senate Democrats have the ability to impede the dangerous GOP agenda that they don’t always use. From withholding consent to denying quorum, it’s time for Democratic Senators to stop acting polite while lives are on the line. They know about these tools…but they might need a reminder that *we* know too.

We look forward to 2020 today. House Democrats get to build a Democratic vision of this country by sponsoring messaging bills. Messaging bills are important ideas that may not pass this year…but they are an important step in the marathon of political agenda making, laying a strong foundation for progress when we take back the Senate and White House. The effect may not be immediately apparent, but it’s crucial to turning around our flailing ship of state in the long run.

Tomorrow, we’ll give you Part 2 of highlights from Indivisible on Offense. Read the whole thing for yourself, and plan to jump into the Whose House? Our House! Day of Action this Thursday!

Don’t wait to jump into offense! Thursday, January 3 is a national Whose House? Our House! Day of Action, and there are events across the country for you to join.
