Today’s Action: Final Fridays for Future climate strike of 2019

It’s the final Friday of 2019, and we’re another year closer to the point of no return in our battle against climate change. And we’re in a pretty terrible state, as a nation. Recently, the European Parliament declared a global climate and environmental emergency, mere weeks after Trump confirmed our withdrawal from the Paris Climate Accord.

The U.S. has contributed more to the climate crisis than any other country on Earth. But with our GOP leaders promoting the deep pockets of the fossil fuel industry over the lives of billions who have already started to feel the effects of our damage, we do not have time to wait for a new administration to own up and fix this global disaster.

Swedish activist and current TIME Person of the Year, Greta Thunberg, has spent the past year building a world-wide movement to fight climate change, including “Fridays for Future” strikes every single Friday around the globe.

Join TODAY’s Fridays for Future climate strike, the final one of 2019. Send a public message to Trump, to the United Nations, and to your local leadership, that our country’s passive stance on climate change is unacceptable.

It is imperative that we do not stay silent, and it’s not just about sending Trump our disapproval. Because even as we work to elect a new president in 2020, our mayors and governors can commit NOW to the Paris Climate Agreement, even if our executive refuses.

24 states and 438 cities in the U.S. have already signed on. Adding your voice to your local Climate Strike tomorrow – and following it with a phone call – can be part of the movement to pull in our 25th state or our 439th city. Because, frankly, our planet cannot afford for our country to wait another year.

Add your voice to today’s Fridays for Future climate strike, and follow with a phone call to your state and city leadership to adhere to the Paris Climate Agreement since Trump won’t. Has your governor and mayor signed on yet?

PS — Please don’t forget to sign the petition calling for Devin Nunes to be investigated for conspiring with Giuliani and Trump to extort Ukraine for political gain, and check out the brilliant “Don’t Think of an Elephant” by George Lakoff — a quick read that contains the ultimate keys for Democrats to win elections — and arguments.
