Today’s Action: Close the Gun Show Loophole

On October 25, Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) gave us heartbreaking statistic:

“Since the October 1 massacre in Las Vegas, more than 2,500 Americans have been shot, at least 772 of them fatally.”

To rephrase, 772 Americans died of gun violence in just 25 days. That number is staggering, and was followed just a few days later by the mass shooting in Sutherland Springs, Texas.

But here’s some good news from Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn): 90% of Americans support comprehensive background checks on gun purchases. That’s why Murphy has introduced the Background Check Expansion Act.

Our nation is tired of lives lost to gun violence. Congress needs to know: we support the Background Check Expansion Act and so should they.

This act will require a federal background check for all gun sales, catching the previously-unregulated private sales, gun shows and online sales which account for approximately 25% of all guns purchased. With over 90% of Americans supporting comprehensive background checks, it’s time for Congress to listen to the people.

Contact your Senator at 202.225.3121 and demand their support for the Background Check Expansion Act. It’s lifesaving common sense…so why isn’t it the law yet?
