Today’s Action: Tell the next Congress to protect Mueller
Americans in over 900 communities took to the streets last night calling for the protection of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into the 2016 Trump campaign’s collusion with Russia. With Attorney General Jeff Sessions ousted and puppet Matthew Whitacre in Sessions’ place, Trump has given Mueller a new boss who is on the record stating the Russia investigation should be shut down.
We are facing a constitutional crisis on multiple accounts – not only because Trump is interfering with the investigation into his own acts, but also because of his unconstitutional appointment of Whitacre without Senate approval.
To protect the investigation, Whitacre must recuse himself (as Sessions did) so that Mueller is able to continue his work freely — and that’s going to take outside pressure.
Call or email your Members of Congress and tell them to go on the record demanding Whitacre recuse himself from Mueller’s investigation. And if you have a new Senator or Representative entering office in January 2019, contact them on social media as well (be sure to thank the new Democrats for helping restore a check on our renegade presidency).
Protecting the Mueller investigation has bipartisan support. Republican Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ), Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), and incoming Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) have joined Democrats in making public statements demanding the investigation continue unfettered.
The investigation has so far uncovered 32 criminal charges and four guilty pleas. But there’s more to go. We need every member of Congress – incoming, outgoing, and continuing – fighting back against Trump’s desperate attempt to bury his own crimes.
Email or call (202.224.3121) your Members of Congress and tell them to make a public statement calling for Whitacre to recuse himself of Mueller’s investigation. And If you have a new Member of Congress thanks to midterms, contact them on social media (for now)!
