Today’s Action: Boycott Kellogg’s in solidarity with striking workers!

Last week nearly 1,400 Kellogg’s workers at four different US cereal plants went on strike over stalled contraction negotiations, bringing the company’s American cereal production to a halt. The Bakery Confectionery Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers (BCTGM) union has been trying to negotiate more equitable terms for existing employees and new hires for over a year with no progress. Making matters worse, the company has threatened to send more cereal production to Mexico if striking workers do not comply with inferior contracts the union has already deemed unacceptable.

Workers at the US plants have been forced to work throughout the entire pandemic, often through 12-hour shifts every day of the week to pick up for those out sick. There is no reason cereal production during a global pandemic should be prioritized over equitable pay and healthy, sustainable working conditions for employees.

Striking Kellogg’s workers deserve the contracts they’re fighting for, and we need all hands on deck to make sure they’re delivered. Make plans to boycott Kellogg’s until the BCTGM union approves a new contract with the company! That means leaving Frosted Flakes, Rice Krispies, Fruit Loops, Pop-Tarts, Eggo, Morning Star and other breakfast staples on the shelves for the time being.

Executives and shareholders need to know that corporations that mistreat their workers won’t receive our business. Unionization and strikes are the heartbeat of the American labor movement, and our leaders have a duty to support the workers of the world in their ongoing quests for proper wages and better working conditions.

We can all do our part to support workers’ rights simply by switching up our grocery habits and spreading the word using the hashtags #KelloggsStrike and #BoycottKelloggs. It’s that simple, and today’s the perfect day to take action!

PS — Please don’t forget to sign the petition to stand with film workers exploited by Hollywood studio execs, and be sure to follow OD Action on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
