Today’s Action: Join the battle over Congress’ September spending bills to #DefundHate

Congress is back in session after five weeks away, and their biggest task this month will be agreeing upon and passing spending bills – in other words, they have three weeks to avoid a government shutdown, which Trump is keen to avoid having lost the political battle so miserably on his shutdown this past February.

The House has already passed most of its spending bills…but they have NOT passed appropriations for the Department of Homeland Security, which funds the machines for Trump’s war against immigrants. And the Senate hasn’t passed any bills at all.

This means we have three weeks to push Congress as hard as possible on cutting funding for Trump’s concentration camps, family separation, the wall that Mexico was going to pay for…which, in practice, means cutting funding for ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) and CBP (Customs and Border Protection).

Let’s get to work.

FIRST: Call or email your Members of Congress and demand the following:

1. Drastically cut funding to ICE and CBP
2. End ICE’s “transfer and reprogramming authority,” which allows ICE to steal money from other agencies, as it’s done from FEMA disaster relief funding.
3. Eliminate the slush fund that provides Trump a blank check for ICE
