Today’s Action: Tell the Senate to pass the HEROES Act NOW

Texas, Florida, and Arizona are shutting economies down again as the rates of infection have risen rapidly since reopening. And with hospitalization numbers increasing, and the percentages of positive test results also going up, it’s clear to experts like Dr. Anthony Fauci that “we’re going in the wrong direction.”

New cases are now on the rise in 35 states, but only decreasing in 2. Meaning? Our economies have reopened due to the financial pressure of remaining closed, and a lot of people are going to – or already have – died as a result. Our states, our communities, and our families need support now.

It’s been over a month since the House passed the HEROES Act, sweeping legislation that will put $3 trillion into personal financial support, voting protections, free testing and treatment for all, and economic stimulation. But so far, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has refused to move forward on ANY new pandemic relief legislation.

Let’s be completely frank: every single day that Mitch McConnell delays allowing a vote on the HEROES Act, he murders hundreds of Americans, and places millions more under crippling financial stress and instability, and pushes our election system into chaos. Call or email your Senators and tell them to make the HEROES Act the Senate’s first priority.

The Democrats’ plan would provide $1 trillion in funding for state and local governments, a second stimulus check for households (including immigrants), funding for the United States Postal Service, moratoriums on evictions, and $200 billion in hazard pay for essential workers. It also includes $3.6 billion to fund a national option to vote-by-mail and boosted in-person safety measures for this November’s election.

It’s vitally important that the Senate move forward on these lifesaving and economy-boosting measures literally as soon as possible.

Tell your Senators that we can’t afford to wait. The Senate must pass the HEROES Act because Americans need these actions to survive this crisis. Do it today!
