Today’s Action: Tell the House to pass a STRONG Dream and Promise Act
18 months ago, Trump abruptly ended the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which grants immigrants who came to our country as children the ability to remain in the place they call home. We fought Trump hard – and although we won the right for current DACA recipients to renew their status, no new applications are being accepted.
This means the door is currently closed to the millions of would-be recipients who had not yet applied, or who arrived after September 2017.
The Dream and Promise Act of 2019 provides a path to citizenship for Dreamers. But, while it has full Democratic co-sponsorship, it’s now in serious danger of being delayed and watered down by both GOP sabotage and resistance from moderate Democrats who want to narrow the eligibility rules.
Call or email your Representative and tell them to cosponsor and pass The Dream and Promise Act of 2019 – in full strength as-written, with no watering down. If your Representative is a Democrat, ask them to stand strong for immigrant rights and say no to ANY GOP amendments.
The Dream and Promise Act of 2019 doesn’t just help Dreamers — it also protects Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders, individuals who have been granted status to remain here while it is too dangerous to return home.
Trump has ended protections for about 300,000 TPS holders, many of whom face persecution or death should they be ejected from the United States. And – this sudden loss of status also means thousands of parents will be separated from their children and spouses torn apart.
Trump has done everything in his power to rip apart immigrant families at every access point — and it’s up to us to fight back for reunification, blow by blow.
