Today’s Action: Sign up to be a poll worker on November 6
We are now just 18 days away from midterms and voter pamphlets are arriving in the mail across the country. But for many would-be voters, the deck is stacked against them.
A key part of the Republican strategy for staying in power is literally denying the votes of those who would vote against them. From passing I.D. laws that racially discriminate against minorities to closing down polling locations in low-income areas, the GOP has worked very hard to squash the dissenting voices that would vote them out.
That’s why the most important thing we can do to fight the Republican agenda is protect and promote every citizen’s right and ability to vote. And on Election Day, a knowledgeable and helpful poll worker is often the difference between a successful vote and a voter turned away.
One day of effort from you could impact thousands of voters! Enter your zip code into Work Election’s handy tool to find your local polling sign-up information, and help protect the right to vote on Election Day!
A smoothly-run Election Day can be the make-or-break for many voters, particularly those who cannot afford to take time off of work or pay for childcare to stand in the long line of an understaffed polling center. And if you speak more than one language, chances are there are voters in your community who could use your help — people who otherwise may get turned away or decide not to vote without the help of a translator.
And here’s an incentive for civic duty we usually can’t provide: poll workers are generally compensated for their time! So you won’t just get the satisfaction of helping thousands of people vote…you’ll walk away with a bit of cash.
Sign up to be a poll worker on Election Day. You can use the money to throw your We-Flipped-the-House after-party!
