Today’s Action: Stop the Uyghur Muslim genocide in China
China has placed over one million Uyghur Muslims into concentration camps. The ethnic minority Turkic Uyghurs number approximately half the population of the resource-rich Xinjiang region of Western China…and they are being disappeared in a real-time genocide that desperately demands global response.
The detained Uyghur Muslims are physically and psychologically tortured, and there are reports of waterboarding and sterilization. Recent reports also suggest the Chinese government is harvesting organs, cutting open the victims bodies for kidneys, hearts, livers, and more while the prisoners are kept alive. Activists say the bodies of the dead in the camps are being cremated, so it is difficult to tell how many have been killed thus far. And all Uyghurs have been forced to renounce Islam, the practice of which has been criminalized.
Trump has stayed silent, along with other world leaders. We must push, not just our government, but corporations and community hard on this issue. Here are several ways to help:
- Urge your Members of Congress to cosponsor the Uyghur Human Rights Policy Act of 2019 (S.178/H.R.649) and the Uighur Act of 2019 (H.R.1025). Not all Democrats have signed on yet, though some Republicans have!
- Urge the leaders of your religious or civic communities to speak up about this genocide. You can share these resources to help them get started.
- Write to the International Olympic Committee and urge them to demand China cease its horrors or move the 2022 Beijing Olympics to a country not committing genocide. #NoRightsNoGames2022
- Contact 2-3 of these Fortune 500 companies you use most that are currently doing business in the Xinjiang region and urge them to cease operations and sales until the Chinese government ends its concentration camps.
No genocide should be ignored. Help spread the word for Uyghur Muslims today.
