Today’s Action: Stop the Keystone XL Pipeline

In 2015, President Obama blocked the construction of the Keystone XL oil pipeline, a move that was heralded as a symbol of his commitment to environmental and climate change policy. And days into his presidency, Trump reversed the order reigniting the project in a clear symbol of his commitment to choosing corporate profit over addressing our global emergency.

And if there were ever a clear indication that this was a terrible choice, just look at last week’s news, when the partially constructed Keystone pipeline spilled 383,000 gallons of sludgy oil onto precious and increasingly-rare wetlands of North Dakota.

The Keystone we have is already an environmental disaster, and it will only get worse if it is allowed to grow. We must stop further construction of the XL.

Leave your public comment with the Federal Register by November 18, telling our government to block Trump’s environmentally-destructive plan to move the Keystone XL pipeline forward. Then, share the link far and wide (ODAction.com/keystone).

Minimizing and — hopefully — reversing the effects of climate change is going to take a global movement on every scale. From individual actions (reducing personal vehicle carbon emissions and meat/dairy consumption) to state actions (such as pushing our governors to commit to the Paris Agreement), we can tackle this on multiple fronts at once.

Blocking the Keystone XL pipeline at the federal level has happened before under Obama, thanks to serious public pressure. It’s up to us to remount that public pressure again and make it very difficult — hopefully impossible — for Trump to move forward.

Speak out against the Keystone XL pipeline by leaving a public comment with the Federal Register. A new pipeline will only bring environmental damage en masse. The deadline to comment is November 18 – so spread the word today (ODAction.com/keystone)!

P.S. Boost your protest of the Keystone XL pipeline by attending or creating a Fridays for Future event. Every Friday, around the world, until we’re done fighting.
