Today’s Action: Tell Twitter to block Infowars host for advocating lynching Obama

Infowars is a far-right conspiracy-theory news show with host Alex Jones, who infamously claimed that the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre that killed 20 children and six adults in 2012 was a staged cover-up, orchestrated by the parents of the victims.

Jones has been banned from Twitter for abusive behavior…but his co-host Owen Shroyer has taken the reigns on the platform. In June, Shroyer advocated for the lynching of President Obama on his show, and then used Twitter to promote the recording.

After the recording was blocked and removed by Twitter (rightfully so), Shroyer continued to tweet his stance that Obama should not only be murdered, but in the manner historically used by white supremacist vigilantes against Black Americans in the South.

Report Owen Shroyer (@allidoisowen) on Twitter and tweet @Jack for Shroyer to be permanently removed from Twitter.

  • Tell Twitter that calling for the lynching of President Obama (reference this screen shot) is serious hate speech that goes well beyond a single tweet being removed or a temporary ban. It’s a dangerous threat to Obama’s life and an incitement of historic violence against all African Americans.
  • Then, tell @Jack you are blocking their top advertisers until they commit to real progress in controlling hate and violence-inciting speech. Use this list to find Fortune 500 companies that advertise on Twitter; even blocking the top 25-50 will make a huge impact!

We live in a country where even violent, racist hate mongering is protected speech. But so is our right to make life difficult for those who enable that filth, and you better believe it’s a right we’ll exercise.
