Today’s Action: The Plan for 2019 (Part 2) – and save the date for Whose House? Our House! Day of Action on January 3rd!

Democrats take control of the House tomorrow, and the first 100 days of any new House sets the tone for the rest of the term’s agenda. This is the start of our best chance to make some real positive change in combating the destructive Trump-GOP agenda. And as usual, we’ll be helping you along with great actions to make a real difference.

Today we continue the best-of highlights from the good folks of Indivisible’s plan of offense – and we strongly encourage all OD Action members to read it in full!

We’re asking our MoC’s to join the Congressional Progressive Caucus. The Tea Party gained power by voting in a caucus — and Republicans in general tend to vote more unified than Democrats. We need Dems to stand firm, unified behind progressive values. Check the link to see if your Reps and Senators are on the Congressional Progressive Caucus list – and get them on there if they aren’t.

We’re asking our MoC’s to personally take charge. Every single member of Congress has the ability to introduce legislation – and to co-sponsor pre-existing legislation. We can’t pass legislation that doesn’t exist, and co-sponsors are vital for showing how much public support any given issue has. It’s up to us to make sure we get the bills we want and to ensure those bills get the support they need.

We’re making our actions big, local, and visible. Showing up for rallies/marches is key to gaining media support for our progressive causes. An in-person visit to a MoC’s office or town hall is more effective than a phone call, which is more effective than an email, which is more effective than a tweet (but keep doing ALL of those, because we can’t all visit every day). Plan at least one in-person visit to the local offices or town halls of each of your Members of Congress this year, in addition to public events (we’ll keep you posted, as usual). Bring a group, take photos, and invite the media!

…and speaking of, ready for your first big, local, visible action?

Tomorrow, January 3rd, is the Whose House? Our House! National Day of Action, and there are events across the country! Support Democrats as they take control of the house, and show the GOP that we are ready for the fight. Enter your zip code to find the event nearest you!
