Today’s Action: Join the Global Climate Strike TODAY – and every Friday

Today is the final day of the Global Climate Strike. This awe-inspiring eight-day worldwide movement in support of climate change reform was launched as a one-woman school strike in August 2018 by 16-year-old Swedish environmental activist, Greta Thunberg.

Over the past week, more than 150 countries and 4 million people have participated in the strike, sending a strong message to the world leaders gathered at the United Nations Climate Action Summit. And the results: 67 countries declared intentions to enhance their commitment to the Paris Climate Accord.

But three big greenhouse gas producers were noticeably absent from these declarations: India, China, and the United States. Which means, for us, it could not be more vital to show up to today’s final-day Climate Strike protests.

Search for a Climate Strike event near you – and then go! No event near you? Make a sign and strike alone – that’s what Greta Thunberg did a year ago. Can’t attend today? Check out the #FridaysForFuture weekly events happening indefinitely around the world. And if you have students in school, urge your school leadership to allow students to participate in today and in the future without penalty.

This movement has been singularly led by our youth, whose future will wholy face the consequences of the devastation to come, and who have been leaving their classrooms every Friday for the weeks and months leading up to this global event…

…because they — we — are out of time. Our country, our world must mobilize NOW to stop further irreparable damage to our ecosystem and all living creatures. Republicans continue to gaslight the terrifying reality as they embrace the changes and set themselves up for personal financial success. We cannot depend on GOP leaders changing their minds – we must instead be a movement that is larger and stronger than them entirely, shift public opinion once and for all, and throw out any elected officials who don’t agree with us.

Starting today.

Attend a #ClimateStrike/#FridaysForFuture action today – and plan your ongoing attendance at Fridays for Future weekly events. And if you’re a parent with children in school, talk to your school administrators about making Fridays For Future attendance easy and encouraged for students.

PS — Please don’t forget to sign the petition calling for the resignation of Trump ally, British PM Boris Johnson after his unconstitutional dismissal of Parliament, and check out the brilliant “Don’t Think of an Elephant” by George Lakoff — a quick read that contains the ultimate keys for Democrats to win elections — and arguments.
