Today’s Action: Visit your Senators during recess!
Congress is home for the holidays, and the timing couldn’t be more critical for facetime with our Senators.
When the Senate returns to D.C. from their holiday, they’ll face an impeachment trial that Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has vowed will cater to Trump’s every whim. But we, via our Senators, need to give McConnell hell every step of the way and expose the sham he’s planning, because:
a) we need every Democrat completely on board,
b) there are certain moderate Republicans who may be on the fence, and need to hear from their progressive constituents to do the right thing, and
c) McConnell is facing re-election in 2020, so turning even a single Republican against him weakens his position.
Call or email your Senators to set up an in-person meeting, or demand they schedule a Town Hall, during the Congressional recess. And then, tell them anything less than a completely fair and transparent trial of Trump’s crimes will be completely unacceptable to you and the law, and ask them to support Senator Schumer’s proposal.
Trump is the first president in our country’s history to be impeached and then run for re-election. And he has done so with the keen assistance of Mitch McConnell, who has been the GOP’s biggest roadblock since well before Trump.
McConnell blocked, unconstitutionally, Obama’s replacement for Supreme Court by refusing to hold a vote. And he has gleefully blocked over 150 House bills from ever reaching the floor of the Senate, denying them the chance to face a vote.
McConnell needs to feel the pressure from every single Senator, Democrat and Republican, to allow a fair, just trial of Trump’s crimes. Because if he doesn’t, his track record already tells us what comes next.
Email or call (202.224.3121) your Senators for an in-person meeting during recess – or ask them to schedule a Town Hall. Tell them face-to-face that the Constitution requires they hold a fair and open trial, like the process Senator Schumer has proposed.
