Today’s Action: Fight Trump’s veto by taking next steps for Yemen
Last week, Trump issued the second veto of his presidency, striking down bipartisan legislation to pull U.S. support from Saudi Arabia’s war in Yemen. In doing so, he ignored the will of Congress, voters, and the international community, continuing a devastating campaign which has already killed up to 80,000 and left 13 million on the brink of starvation.
Whether Trump did it in greedy petulance over his falsified war authority as president or because he’s protecting personal business deals in Saudi Arabia remains to be seen. But regardless of his reasons, Congress must now side-step the veto, and move forward in ending the worst humanitarian crisis of our time.
Email or call (202.224.3121) your Members of Congress, and tell them to end U.S. involvement in the Yemen War by taking the following actions:
- Fighting for an override of Trump’s veto on Yemen
- Exploring and pursuing other routes to end U.S. military involvement, including
- sanctions against Saudi officials who have blocked humanitarian supply shipments
- cutting funding to defense appropriations bills for military involvement in Yemen
- restricting arms sales to Saudi Arabia
Yemeni civilians are dying, approximately 100 per week…and that number will only continue to rise unless Congress moves fast. There is no time to waste.
