Today’s Action: Stop the GOP from taking away a woman’s right to choose
Yesterday, the most corrupt member (arguably) of the most corrupt administration (definitely) in U.S. history resigned (finally). This did not happen on its own. Even after EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt’s resignation, Trump indicated he liked Pruitt in the job. This happened because you kept the pressure on — calling, emailing, signing petitions, and taking to the streets. So keep up the good work — resist, persist, repeat. Because it’s working.

Today’s Action: Stop the GOP from taking away a woman’s right to choose
Supreme Court Justice Kennedy generally voted conservative — but in 1992, he broke ranks to stand with a woman’s right to choose as the court upheld abortion rights. With his impending departure and Trump’s looming replacement, the GOP is salivating over the chance to overturn Roe v. Wade and revoke women’s freedom over their own body.
And they’ve already begun chipping away. GOP legislators in Iowa recently passed a “heartbeat” law, banning all abortions once a fetal heartbeat is detected — usually around 6 weeks, before most women even know they are pregnant. Mississippi and Kentucky have passed similar laws.
The GOP goal is to pass legislation that they know is unconstitutional in the hopes that one of their laws will make its way to the Supreme Court, where the stolen conservative majority will ultimately overturn Roe v. Wade. Their strategy could work — which is why we must work now to stop states from passing unconstitutional laws meant to end abortion protections.
And then there’s Trump. In his latest attack against women, Trump has announced his intention to cut off Title X federal funding for family planning to any clinic that even discusses abortion services.
What effect would this gag rule have? Planned Parenthood alone serves 41% of the patients who benefit from the $260 million Title X funding. If Trump is successful, Planned Parenthood will lose ALL federal funding and 41% of Title X recipients would lose – not just abortion access – but their primary (and sometimes ONLY) source of healthcare and birth control.
Losing “lifesaving” healthcare access is not hyperbole: To be blunt, Trump’s cuts will result in more women dying.
