Today’s Action: Reconvene the Senate to convict Trump

Trump has been impeached – again. 10 Republicans joined Democrats for the vote in the House. And every day, we get more indiciation from Senate Republicans (including Majority Leader Mitch McConnell) that they are considering voting to convict in the impending trial.

But McConnell is running out of time to do the right thing: use his emergency powers to reconvene the Senate this weekend, to push forward the trial and conviction of Donald Trump.

Currently, the Senate isn’t set to return until January 19, the day before Biden’s inauguration. McConnell is holding the trial hostage as his final act of majority-leader obstruction.

Call or email your Senators and demand they press Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to reconvene the Senate THIS WEEKEND, so that Trump’s trial is not delayed – and make sure they’re prepared to support conviction!

We must keep this momentum going. Republican leaders are strongly feeling the heat to distance themselves and the party as a whole from Trump, as their major corporate donors are abandoning them for supporting his coup. And following the successful conviction, we’ll also be looking for the subsequent vote to bar him from running for office ever again.

If we don’t successfully pressure McConnell to bring the Senate back immediately, the next step will be pushing our Senators to negotiate a shared schedule that allows Biden to get the work done he needs while simultaneously tackling conviction.

Deep breath. Five days until Biden and Democrats take control…

Email or call (202.224.3121) your Senators and tell them Trump’s trial can’t wait. Urge them to pressure Mitch McConnell into bringing the Senate back NOW, not waiting until January 19 – and then demand they vote for conviction!
